Medical Exclusions From School/Reasons To Stay Home From School

  • Fever of 100 degrees and above will be sent home/should stay home
  • Student MUST BE fever free for at least 24 hours without fever reducing medication in order to return to school
  • Active vomiting within the past 24 hours
  • Diarrhea within the past 24 hours
  • Swollen or painful joints from injury
  • Severe earache
  • Suspected contagious diseases (until appropriately treated for 24 – 48 hours)
    • Chicken pox
    • Flu or viral symptoms
    • Conjunctivitis (pink eye) with drainage
    • Scabies
    • Undiagnosed rashes
    • Untreated and uncovered ringworm
    • Pinworms
    • Injury or illness requiring further immediate treatment
  • Suspected substance abuse
  • Students: continual yellow or green drainage from nose that is unable to be contained or cared for
  • Injuries that occur at home should be treated at home or by the family doctor, urgent care, etc. Injuries that require care at school require a doctor’s order for treatment (and medication/supplies, as appropriate).
